Paul Stoddard
Co-opted (Parent) Governor
Chair
I am a Parent Governor at Underwood West Academy and have been for the last two years and have recently become a Trustee of the Aspire Multi-Academy Trust, to which the school belongs to. I'm excited to be involved with both the Academy and the Trust as a Governor and relish the opportunity to work alongside the staff and the pupils and be involved with a school that provides such a caring and nurturing environment.
Professionally I'm an Operations Manager within Royal Mail, responsible for all the day to day running of a delivery office including operational and staff issues, business planning, staff development, absence management, health and safety, conduct and facilities management. I believe these skills can be utilised also a school governor.
I am the proud parent of two children. My son has progressed through Reception, Year 1 and 2. It has been a privilege to watch his skills develop and to see first hand the expectations and challenges set by Underwood West Academy. I also enjoy spending time with my family and pursing my love of History.
This is my first role as a Governor but I hope I can have a positive input and help support our school and the Trust in the future.
Will Spilsbury
Co-opted Governor
I joined the Governing Board of Underwood West Academy after spending four years as a volunteer listening to children read. During that time, I got to know the staff and the children well and I now feel privileged to become involved in the work of the Local Academy Governors and to see how policy implementation benefits the children and staff alike.
My back ground is in IT and I have a keen interest in Equality and feel that I can offer skills and commitment to the school in my role as a governor. I currently work for YouTube making sure uploaded content is both professional and sustaining.
I like to fill my spare time with mountain biking, reading books, watching films, travelling and building a huge model railway!
Helen Lewis
Parent Governor
I have been a Parent Governor at Underwood West Academy for the past 2 1/2 years. I have a son who is 17 who attended the School and a daughter who is 9 and in Year 4. I have been visiting the school since 2004 and feel that I know the staff and children well and believe that it has a caring and nurturing atmosphere where children feel safe and happy to learn and can achieve their full potential.
I always enjoy coming into the school and speaking to the children, listening to their experiences and hopes for the future, not to mention the very bright corridors with their work proudly displayed.
I live very close to the school and so am acutely aware of the community's strengths and weaknesses. I am a Legal Secretary at a local solicitors practice. I enjoy spending time with my family and pursuing my interest in history.
Stephanie Mellor
Parent Governor
My name is Stephanie Mellor, I am a single mother of two beautiful children, one of which attends Underwood West Academy in Year 2 and my youngest will be starting in September. I also came to the school over 30 years ago.
I have a great relationship with the teachers as my son is under SEND and so I meet regularly with the team.
My hobbies include swimming and arts and crafts, I especially like making face masks and scented oils as well as inventive games for my children (which sometimes end up messy!).
I have grown so much personally and gained a lot of confidence over the past few years, which will certainly help me as a parent governor.
I'm an approachable person and I understand the struggles us parents go through to help our children to achieve and be happy.
