Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Year 4! Although 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, the children have returned to school with a positive attitude and a smile. We are really looking forward to working with them and they have already started to settle into the Year 4 routine.
Year 4 are very lucky to have a number of staff supporting them this year. In class 4W there are Miss Wilson, Mrs Sproston and Mrs Smart. In class 4T there are Miss Ticehurst and Mrs Birkett.
As we are in new classes, please could we politely ask that all uniform, PE kit and lunch boxes are labelled clearly with children’s names and class number. Children will also need to bring in a filled water bottle each morning.
Following current guidelines, children are being dropped off and collected at the school gates. If you need to collect your child from a different gate please send a written note in to their teacher.
Children are to arrive at school between 8.45am and 9.15 to support social distancing and the children should follow the one way system around school to their classroom. If your child arrives at school after 9.15am they need to go to the office to be signed in before coming to the classroom. The school day finishes at 3.15 and your child will walk to the gate you have requested to meet you. If you have younger children in school you can collect from the astro turf. Please keep to social distancing and we respectfully ask only one parent collects children at this time.
Snack and Dinners
School is not currently providing snack for sale, therefore if you would like your child to have a healthy snack please send it to school with them. At the present time children are eating their packed lunches in the pod area to allow us to continue to provide hot dinners to those who would like them. All school dinners need to be paid for by parent pay. If you have any queries regarding this then please email firstname.lastname@example.org
During the Autumn Term, Year 4 will be reading the book ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. We will provide regular updates about all the exciting learning happening each week in the year group and you can visit the school website for more details on areas of the curriculum that will be taught.
PE will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Children can come to school on Wednesday in their full PE kit . They are to wear a coloured t shirt, shorts or track suit bottoms, their school jumper and appropriate footwear, pumps or trainers. Where possible PE lessons will take place outside so please make sure they have a pair of track suit bottoms with them.
Reading at home
Due to the current situation children will be able to change their reading books once a week. The children will take a book home on a Thursday and return it the following Monday, this is so the books can be quarantined. If your child has not finished they may keep it until the following week. Children can still work towards their reading stars and are welcome to read books from home. We will also collect home reading logs on a Monday. Reading at home makes a huge difference to the progress the children make. Please feel free to read a variety of books, magazines, recipes, newspapers or comics with your children. They do not just need to read their home reading book. The children will be expected to read their home reading books to an adult at least 3 times a week and a note of this should be written in their reading record book.
In Year 3 and 4, the children are required to learn the National Curriculum word list, so please practice these as often as you can at home. They can be found in the middle of the reading log booklet
At the end of year 4 the children will take a times tables test. This will require them to know all the times tables up to 12 x 12, in any order fluently. Please encourage your child to practise these at home. This is a good website for some fun practise.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns throughout the year. If you have any questions at all, please contact the office or send a note with your child.
We look forward to working with you this year.
Miss Wilson and Miss Ticehurst
